RPG Developer
GDH Consulting is hiring a highly skilled and motivated Applications Development Analyst with a strong background in RPG programming to support the Vital Statistics System for a reputable public health department. This position will involve working in an IBM AS400 environment and requires a candidate with significant experience in RPG programming. The role is based on an initial contract with the intention to convert to a permanent position within 6 months. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work under the direct supervision of technical experts and contribute to complex analysis, design, development, and maintenance projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform complex analysis, design, development, and maintenance of applications using RPG, CL/400, SQL RPGLE, and other AS400 tools.
- Develop system and program documentation to ensure clarity and continuity.
- Conduct testing of modifications and enhancements to guarantee system integrity.
- Debug and resolve production issues adhering to system development processes and standards.
- Transfer knowledge and skills to junior level programmers as needed.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts for testing and training purposes.
- Multi-task and manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
- Support existing applications by modifying/enhancing them as per current needs and implementing necessary changes.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or another related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 8 years of verifiable RPG programming experience on an AS400 system within the last 12 – 15 years.
- Proficiency in software languages including CL/400, RPG/400, ILE RPG, SQL RPGLE; experience with Query 400 and Aldon Change Management Software preferred.
- Extensive experience with AS400 Screen Design Aid (SDA) and working with subfiles.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make sound decisions with partial information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a solid educational background in relevant fields.
- Experience in troubleshooting real-time production issues and recommending solutions.
- Competent in all phases of the applications systems analysis and programming activities.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Windows and MS Office Tools.
- Eligible to qualify for State employment as a Programmer Analyst III-General option.
