About the Role
As a key member of our wire center transformation team, the 9-1-1 Network Architect will be responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing state-of-the-art network solutions that ensure reliable, secure, and scalable emergency communications. You will play a critical role in researching existing legacy systems, developing migration strategies, and providing technical leadership throughout the network transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implement: Create robust network solutions aligning with business needs and industry standards for 9-1-1 systems, including fiber, TDM, SIP, and VoIP networks.
- Legacy System Analysis: Review and document existing circuit designs, connection points to Originating Service Providers (OSPs), and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).
- Project Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams to plan, order, track, and oversee the deployment and decommissioning of network connections.
- Documentation & Standards: Develop comprehensive architecture diagrams, detailed documentation, and enforce network standards to ensure consistent quality.
- Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging networking technologies; recommend and integrate innovative tools to enhance network reliability and security.
- Security & Compliance: Implement security measures, protocols, and best practices tailored for emergency networks to safeguard sensitive data.
- Troubleshooting & Optimization: Respond swiftly to network issues, optimize performance during installation phases, and ensure smooth network migration.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Industry Best Practices: Keep current with advancements in network protocols, industry standards, and regulatory requirements affecting 9-1-1 systems.
Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience as a Network Architect or similar, with a strong background in designing enterprise and public safety networks.
- Extensive knowledge of legacy 9-1-1 systems and protocols—CAMA, ISDN, T1/T3, ALI circuits, fiber transport, VoIP, SIP.
- Hands-on experience with network design, installation, and modification of TDM and SIP circuits.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex network diagrams and develop scalable solutions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in 9-1-1 system planning or network design.
- Deep understanding of 9-1-1-specific network architecture and protocols.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CISSP, or ENP.
