This is a fantastic opportunity to work remotely on a stable, long-term program with potential for direct hire.
Position Overview:
- Title: Mainframe Programmer (COBOL / IDMS)
- Location: Remote (Preference for EST hours; on-site in Indianapolis occasionally)
- Contract Duration: 6 months with potential to convert to Direct-Hire
- Start Date: As soon as clearances and onboarding are complete
- Work Hours: Standard business hours, 40 hours/week
- Clearance Requirement: Public Trust or ability to obtain
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
About the Project: You will be supporting critical payroll applications, predominantly in a mainframe environment. Your role involves hands-on programming, system enhancements, maintenance, and support for systems used across financial operations. You'll be an integral part of larger application support and development team, ensuring the continued reliability and performance of essential payroll systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Modify, develop, and maintain COBOL programs in a mainframe environment
- Support and enhance databases using IDMS and ADSO tools
- Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement system updates
- Support system installations, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance
- Ensure compliance with software standards and best practices throughout the SDLC
Qualifications:

Must-Haves:
- Recent and strong COBOL programming experience in a mainframe setting
- Hands-on experience with IDMS databases
- Knowledge of ADSO or similar database management tools
- Experience supporting payroll or financial software systems
- Full SDLC understanding
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 2–4 years of relevant experience

- Familiarity with SQL and other development tools
- Prior experience working on federal or DFAS programs
Pay Range: $40.00 – $42.00 Hourly
