Data Center Technician
Role Summary
This senior-level role involves managing all aspects of telecommunications equipment installation and repair within a data center environment. The position demands expertise in ensuring high system availability, reliability, and compliance with federal security standards. Responsibilities include leading complex hardware installations, troubleshooting, and continuous operational improvements to support mission-critical communication infrastructure. The role also encompasses mentoring junior technicians and maintaining detailed documentation of all maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of telecommunications hardware installations, ensuring adherence to design specifications and industry best practices.
- Implement proactive monitoring and performance analysis to identify and mitigate potential issues before impacting critical systems.
- Lead complex structured cabling projects, including fiber optic and copper termination and testing.
- Develop, refine, and enforce standard operating procedures and introduce automation solutions to improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with federal security regulations through strict access controls, audits, and safety protocols.
- Manage outage recovery efforts, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures to prevent future failures.
- Plan and forecast resource needs, manage equipment lifecycle, and support scalability for future operational demands.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation within Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems, tracking equipment status and configuration changes.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams for project implementation and operational tasks, ensuring timely completion and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent work background.
- Extensive knowledge of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, electrical power distribution, and safety standards.
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to solve complex problems and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in copper and fiber optic cabling termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience managing complex projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in demanding environments, including in confined or high-risk areas.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours, including weekends and on-call rotations, as necessary.
- Must possess and maintain an active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring tools and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, such as IP addressing and cabling standards.
- Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) tools like ServiceNow or Remedy.
Publishing Pay Range: $30.00 – $35.00 Hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
