We are seeking a skilled CAD Technician II to support our natural gas utility engineering and design team. This pivotal role involves creating detailed, accurate construction drawings, system maps, and 3D models that underpin safe and efficient utility systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Drafting (AutoCAD Civil 3D):
Develop comprehensive construction drawings for gas mains, service installations, subdivision layouts, commercial and mixed-use utility plans, and internal building gas systems. Prepare and update plan and profile sheets that reflect accurate technical details, adhering to municipal and company standards.
  • Data Management & Integration:
Import and organize survey data, GIS information, and civil files. Generate optimal surfaces, alignments, pipe networks, and pressure system layers. Maintain version control for all project files in shared environments.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
Liaise with engineers, survey teams, project managers, and developers to interpret design requirements and resolve conflicts. Incorporate field survey data, ROW constraints, and developer civil files into cohesive designs.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Ensure all drawings comply with company standards, municipal and DOT permitting requirements, and relevant gas utility regulations. Maintain thorough documentation for regulatory and engineering records.
  • Additional Support:
Assist with CAD block management, standard libraries, plotting, and permitting documentation. Support project setup, reviewing, and final submittal processes.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

  • Associate’s Degree, technical diploma, or certification in CAD, Engineering Technology, Drafting & Design, or a related field.
  • Proven proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, with hands-on experience in:
    • Creating and managing alignments, surfaces, profiles, pipe networks, and sheets.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, utility drawings, plats, easements, and survey data.
  • Basic understanding of underground utilities such as natural gas, water, or telecom systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in maintaining accurate project documentation.

Preferred:

  • Experience drafting for gas utilities or civil engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) quality levels and survey deliverables.
  • Knowledge of public ROW utility standards, permitting, and GIS data integration.
  • Experience supporting land development projects, including subdivisions and commercial sites.
  • Understanding of materials and construction methods used in natural gas systems.
