The Lead AI Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, deploying, and overseeing the agency’s enterprise AI ecosystem. This full-time position requires expertise in secure, compliant AI architecture, with a focus on optimizing AI operations, governance, and integration across the organization. The role offers the flexibility of remote work with occasional onsite visits to the headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, implement, and manage a secure, scalable enterprise AI environment supporting agency-wide mission objectives.
  • Oversee setup, configuration, security hardening, and ongoing operational management of all AI platforms and services.
  • Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for AI system design, integration, and compliance with federal security, privacy, and governance standards.
  • Develop detailed architecture diagrams illustrating the design, flow, and integration of AI components within the enterprise ecosystem.
  • Manage AI solution deployment lifecycles, including updates, change requests, versioning, and vulnerability mitigation in accordance with service level agreements.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, leadership, and governance bodies to refine AI-enabled solutions, workflows, and operational processes.
  • Establish and manage a comprehensive AI performance and ROI measurement framework to track value delivery aligned with agency outcomes.
  • Provide expert guidance on model refinement, prompt engineering, performance tuning, and long-term AI capability maturation.
  • Support agency-wide AI adoption initiatives by mentoring teams, contributing technical expertise, and fostering a responsible AI culture.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant cybersecurity, privacy, data classification, and architectural standards while ensuring responsible AI practices.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience architecting and managing enterprise AI environments within secure, regulated settings.
  • Hands-on expertise deploying AI solutions using Azure AI Foundry, including model orchestration, evaluation pipelines, and deployment patterns.
  • Extensive experience with AI Agents, RAG techniques, data integrations, and responsible AI controls supported by Azure AI Foundry.
  • Strong background transforming business use cases into fully operational AI solutions, including requirements analysis and solution design.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot ecosystem, including M365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Security Copilot, integrated with Azure services.
  • Solid understanding of AI governance, compliance, and responsible AI practices aligned with enterprise controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and change management skills to facilitate smooth AI adoption across the organization.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment with availability for occasional onsite visits as needed.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future.

Publishing Pay Range: $79.00 – $80.00 hourly

This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
