Role Summary
A Senior Network Engineer specializing in data center and core network infrastructure is responsible for planning, executing, and validating network decommissioning projects. This role involves working within change-controlled environments to ensure seamless migration and decommissioning of networking equipment. The position requires technical expertise in routing, switching, and data center technologies, with a focus on maintaining service continuity throughout project lifecycle phases.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive network audits to identify devices scheduled for decommissioning.
- Back up configurations, VLAN databases, and routing tables prior to device retirement.
- Design and implement traffic migration strategies to reroute services efficiently before decommissioning.
- Decommission routers, switches, and firewalls, updating network diagrams and topology documentation accordingly.
- Migrate legacy infrastructure such as Catalyst 6500 and Brocade platforms to modern solutions like Nexus 7K/5K/2K as part of consolidation efforts.
- Lead terminal server consolidation and optimize out-of-band access methods.
- Perform post-migration validation to confirm service continuity and resolve issues.
- Operate within change-dependent environments, securing CAB approval for all modifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate decommissioning timelines and ensure project milestones are met.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of network topology and configuration changes in line with best practices.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with network audits, device decommissioning, and migration projects.
- Strong technical background in routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and MPLS.
- Proficiency with switching technologies including VLANs, VTP, STP/MSTP, EtherChannel, vPC, VDC, and OTV.
- Hands-on experience working with Cisco Nexus (9K, 7K, 5K, 2K), Catalyst (6500, 9300, 4500), and ASR routers.
- Knowledge of data center fabric technologies, including Cisco ACI, EVPN, and VXLAN.
- Familiarity with Juniper MX/EX switches and routers is a plus.
- Experience with F5 BIG-IP LTM/GTM and scripting/automation tools such as Python and Ansible.
- Proficiency with network diagramming tools like Visio.
- CCNP certification required; CCIE Data Center preferred.
- Additional certifications such as PMP or ITIL Foundation are advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively within change management processes and cross-team collaborations.

Publishing Pay Range: $68.97 – $74.32 Hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
