Piping Senior Designer/Checker

Role Summary
A senior-level Piping Designer/Checker is responsible for creating precise design layouts and detailed drawings for complex piping projects. This role involves design, drafting, review, and coordination to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with industry standards. The position also includes leadership responsibilities, acting as Discipline Design Lead (DDL) and potentially as Project Design Lead (PDL), guiding internal and external design teams throughout project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop and produce detailed piping design layouts, sketches, and final drawings using Advanced 3D CAD systems such as CADWorx, PDMS, or AVEVA.
• Review and check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project specifications, safety standards, and codes (API, ANSI, ASME).
• Conduct detailed dimensional checks and bill of materials reviews to ensure correctness and manufacturability.
• Support safety in design practices and ensure drawings meet operational safety and interference criteria.
• Lead and coordinate discipline-specific design efforts, acting as the Discipline Design Lead (DDL) and potentially as the Project Design Lead (PDL), mentoring team members and liaising with external designers/drafters.
• Assist in scope, schedule, and budget management for piping and multidiscipline projects, ensuring deliverables are on time and within budget.
• Participate in project meetings, communicate project status proactively, and collaborate effectively with team members at all organizational levels.
• Support project planning tasks, including scope definition, resource allocation, and man-hour estimates.
• Ensure all drawings comply with applicable industry standards and company quality assurance procedures.
• Address design challenges promptly, incorporating feedback and red marks from review processes to finalize project deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline, with a focus on piping design preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of piping design and layout experience; preference for candidates with 2+ years at Matrix or similar.
• Proficiency with advanced 3D CAD systems such as CADWorx, PDMS, or AVEVA; AVEVA experience highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of piping, mechanical drafting, and fabrication processes.
• Familiarity with industry standards and codes, including API, ANSI, and ASME.
• Experience with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), vendor drawings, and piping details.
• Knowledge of safety in design practices is highly desirable.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently under tight deadlines and communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Willingness to work occasional overtime and travel as required.

Publishing Pay Range: $50.00 – $55.00 hourly

This position offers a hybrid schedule, with time split between the office and remote work.
