Electrical Designer IV
This senior electrical and instrumentation design role involves developing, updating, and maintaining complex electrical drawings and documentation for hazardous area classifications, grounding plans, and process control systems within the oil and gas industry. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of electrical systems at compressor stations, meter stations, and mainline valve sites, overseeing the entire lifecycle of design, verification, and updates to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements. The role demands close collaboration with internal teams and external partners to deliver accurate, timely, and code-compliant engineering documentation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and update electrical hazardous area classification plans, grounding plans, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and loop diagrams.
- Review and verify that all drawings, plans, and schematics conform to applicable codes, standards (such as NEC, API, ASME), and client specifications.
- Communicate with internal teams and external stakeholders to assess project needs and ensure satisfaction.
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of electrical drawings and diagrams from initial concept through to as-built documentation and ongoing maintenance.
- Prepare detailed instrumentation and electrical designs for compressor stations, meter stations, and mainline valve sites.
- Create and review electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, conduit, and cable schedules.
- Design and implement PLC control systems utilizing Allen Bradley, Schneider, Emerson controllers, and other compatible platforms.
- Produce electrical classification area plans, MCC schematics, and grounding plans aligned with industry standards.
- Collaborate with project teams during design, review, and approval processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain updated records and documentation for electrical systems, ensuring ongoing compliance and accessibility for future modifications or audits.
Qualifications
- Associate of Applied Science degree in Design and Drafting Technology or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of drafting experience with at least 6 years focused on independent design assignments, especially in the oil and gas industry.
- Extensive knowledge of industry codes, standards, and practices including NEC, API, ASME, NFPA, ISA, DOT, and others.
- Proven experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx Plant, and CADWorx P&ID software.
- Strong background in instrumentation and electrical system design for hazardous areas.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and verify electrical drawings and schematics for complex facilities.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple project deliverables.
- Availability to work in a hybrid setting, balancing office and remote work.
- Must possess legal work authorization to work in the designated location.
Publishing Pay Range: $40.00-$52.00
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
