Senior Data Engineer
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our team. This pivotal role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data systems that support analytics, reporting, and strategic decision-making. You will work with cutting-edge Microsoft SQL Server technologies to build reliable, scalable data pipelines, optimize database performance, and ensure data quality and accessibility.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the full lifecycle development of data applications and enhancements based on business requirements.
- Analyze data needs, develop sourcing, transformation, and complex logic mapping to support enterprise data initiatives.
- Design and configure data integration layers, establishing operational and administrative guidelines for seamless data flow.
- Build, test, and deploy ETL, ELT, and other service-based data pipelines using Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, and related tools.
- Document processes and system architecture as part of SDLC standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify technical improvements and implement best practices.
- Provide operational support for data solutions, including incident resolution, service requests, and problem management.
- Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, and scalability strategies.
- Maintain change management processes and ensure adherence to data governance policies.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers, promoting excellence in database design, coding standards, and DevOps practices.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 8 years in software analysis, development, and engineering, with a focus on data management.
- At least 8 years of experience working with SQL in a relational database environment, specifically Microsoft SQL Server.
- 6+ years of experience with object-oriented programming languages (e.g., JavaScript) and ETL/ELT tools such as SSIS and Fivetran.
- Proven expertise in Data Warehouse design, development, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS; experience with Snowflake, Coalesce, or actuarial systems is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring team members and promoting best practices across data engineering disciplines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and clearly convey technical information.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for delivering high-quality, secure, and compliant data solutions.
