Role Summary
This mid-level Network Engineer position supports daily network operations within a large-scale operational technology (OT) environment. The role involves maintaining network stability, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and supporting configuration and deployment tasks. The engineer will provide ongoing operational support and stabilization efforts following a major encryption project, ensuring network reliability for an additional 2–4 years.
Responsibilities
- Monitor network performance and health across multiple sites, responding to alerts and troubleshooting connectivity or performance issues.
- Validate primary and backup communication paths, including cellular, satellite, and terrestrial links.
- Analyze logs to identify recurring issues or degradation trends, supporting incident response and service restoration.
- Configure, stage, and deploy routers, switches, and firewalls, applying standardized configuration templates aligned with network design.
- Support circuit installations and hardware cutovers, conducting peer reviews and post-deployment validation.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, diagrams, IP management, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ensure compliance with network security standards, supporting audits, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and field teams via team standups, status updates, and technical communication.
- Utilize scripting tools such as Python and Ansible to automate deployment, configuration, and compliance processes.
- Validate hardware, firmware, and configurations in lab environments, testing failover scenarios and documenting results.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in network engineering with expertise in routing, switching, and firewall configuration.
- Hands-on experience with BGP and DMVPN, with a solid understanding of network security practices.
- Proficiency in network monitoring and operational support duties.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational setting.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining detailed documentation.
- Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as Python and Ansible (preferred).
- Experience in OT or industrial networks, including energy, utilities, or manufacturing environments (preferred).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Availability to work in a hybrid schedule, combining remote work with on-site presence as needed.
Publishing Pay Range: $40.00- $50.00 Hourly
This position offers a hybrid schedule, with time split between the office and remote work.
