Role Summary
An experienced Implementation Engineer specializing in Cisco Nexus data center upgrades and deployments is responsible for leading and executing complex infrastructure projects. This role involves planning, implementing, validating, and optimizing Cisco Nexus switch platforms within enterprise and service provider environments. The position requires strong technical expertise, hands-on troubleshooting skills, and effective collaboration with customers and technical teams to ensure successful data center modernization with minimal operational disruption.
Responsibilities
- Lead the installation, configuration, migration, and upgrade of Cisco Nexus 5000, 6000, 7000, and 9000 Series switches.
- Execute hardware refreshes and platform migrations within Nexus environments.
- Implement and validate Layer 2 and Layer 3 data center network designs.
- Perform NX-OS software upgrades, lifecycle management, and code validation activities.
- Configure and troubleshoot networking technologies including vPC, VRF, VLANs, VXLAN, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, Multicast, QoS, and Port Channels.
- Develop and execute detailed migration plans, implementation procedures, rollback strategies, and validation testing protocols.
- Conduct pre-deployment assessments and post-implementation health checks.
- Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to align deployments with customer requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex network issues and provide root cause analysis within data center environments.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, network diagrams, migration runbooks, and customer-facing reports.
- Support network automation and scripting initiatives using tools such as Python, Ansible, REST APIs, and Git.
- Adhere to operational best practices, security standards, and change management policies during all deployment phases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience supporting Cisco data center networking solutions.
- Proven experience deploying, upgrading, and troubleshooting Cisco Nexus platforms (5000, 6000, 7000, 9000 series).
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, Routing and Switching protocols, including OSPF and BGP.
- Hands-on expertise with NX-OS administration, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with vPC, FabricPath, VXLAN, and data center technologies.
- Ability to develop comprehensive migration and validation plans, along with rollback strategies.
- Extensive experience working in large-scale data center environments.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication capabilities.
- Ability to lead and support complex migration events with minimal downtime.
- Certifications such as CCNP Data Center required; CCIE Data Center preferred.
- Experience supporting automation and cloud-related environments is a plus.
Publishing Pay Range: $60.00 – $65.00 Hourly
