Role Summary
This remote Full Stack Developer position offers an opportunity to contribute to critical modernization efforts within federal healthcare technology systems. The role involves developing scalable applications, integrating AI and LLM capabilities, and working within an Agile environment to support the VA's Community Care program. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions that enhance Veterans’ access to healthcare services.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement scalable web applications utilizing Java, Spring, Node.js/TypeScript, and front-end frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Build and optimize event-driven microservices, ensuring system reliability and high performance.
- Develop server-side logic, APIs, and data integrations with relational and non-relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
- Integrate AI and LLM APIs (such as OpenAI, Bedrock, or Claude) into enterprise-grade systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, maintaining high coding standards through peer reviews and best practices.
- Collaborate in Agile scrum teams, participating in sprint planning, design discussions, and continuous delivery activities.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend appropriate tools, frameworks, and architecture enhancements.
- Develop and execute automated tests to ensure software quality, including security vulnerability remediation.
- Work closely with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions that meet security and compliance standards.
- Contribute ideas and feedback to foster innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in full-stack development, with proficiency in Java, Spring, PostgreSQL, SQL, or MongoDB.
- Front-end experience with React or Angular.
- Hands-on experience integrating LLMs and AI APIs into production applications.
- Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, and healthcare interoperability standards.
- Experience designing and implementing cloud-native architectures using AWS services such as Aurora, ECS, SQS, S3, and PostgreSQL.
- Knowledge of developing AI-enabled or data-intensive systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to contribute ideas in a team setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Willingness to work within a federally regulated environment is preferred.
- VA experience or federal healthcare experience is a plus.

Publishing Pay Range: $50.00 – $55.00 Hourly
This position is based in remote work and can be performed from an approved location.
