Role Summary
This position involves leading enterprise network modernization initiatives within a government and defense environment. The role requires a seasoned Network Engineer responsible for designing, deploying, and optimizing secure and scalable wired and wireless network solutions. The incumbent will provide technical leadership in migrating and upgrading complex base area networks, ensuring operational excellence and security compliance across multiple sites.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning, design, deployment, and optimization of enterprise network modernization projects.
- Develop and implement secure, scalable, and high-availability wired and wireless network architectures.
- Support network modernization efforts across campus, data centers, WAN, and remote sites.
- Create and maintain detailed network design documentation, implementation plans, and technical artifacts.
- Conduct network assessments, gap analyses, and evaluate existing infrastructure to recommend improvements.
- Engineer routing, switching, security, and related network services solutions for modernization initiatives.
- Perform network migration, cutover activities, and troubleshoot complex network issues in multi-vendor environments.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to apply Zero Trust Architecture principles and implement network segmentation.
- Support automation initiatives using scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and orchestration tools.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and lead technical reviews and modernization roadmaps.
Qualifications
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must currently hold a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in enterprise network engineering or architecture roles.
- Proven experience with Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), and enterprise switching technologies.
- Strong understanding of network security fundamentals, segmentation, and WAN/remote connectivity solutions.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco or similar enterprise networking platforms, including troubleshooting and analysis tools.
- Ability to support implementation, testing, and operational transition activities.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Valid DoD 8140 IAT II Baseline Certification: CompTIA Security+ CE or SSCP, and Cisco CCNA certification.
Publishing Pay Range: $67.00 – $70.00 Hourly
This position is onsite and requires 25% travel.
