GIS Transmission Analyst
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and autonomous GIS Transmission Analyst to join their dynamic team. This role is pivotal in the citing and selection of wind, solar, hydrogen, and storage projects through the maintenance and analysis of transmission data. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and transmission systems, alongside strong organizational and communication skills. This is a full-time position, offering an opportunity to work on impactful projects in the renewable energy sector. The role requires an individual who can manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently, with minimal guidance, and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with various departments within the Business Development group, including Transmission, Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate, and Acquisitions & Structuring, to provide GIS and cartographic support.
- Create, edit, and ensure the accuracy of GIS transmission data.
- Manipulate, analyze, and extract geographic data from both public and private datasets to inform the siting of renewable energy projects.
- Interpret interconnection documents, studies, and reports for integration into a GIS database for project-level cost assessment.
- Conduct POI (Point of Interconnection) suitability analysis for renewable energy sites.
- Manage and interpret FCITC/capacity datasets and serve as the subject matter expert on transmission questions.
- Facilitate meetings with colleagues and transmission engineers to strategize POI selection.
- Prepare products and deliverables for presentation to decision-makers and decision-making bodies, working closely with a software development team to test applications and tools that assist in automating workflows.
- Strong proficiency with Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, and Portal.
- Minimum of 3 years of GIS work experience using GIS applications such as ArcGIS and related extensions, relational databases, and a broad knowledge of GIS capabilities.
- Preferred experience in renewable energy development, project level evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, real estate and land records, local and state permitting, and environmental studies.
- Experience with PSSE or similar software is preferred.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong computer skills and experience with database-driven applications.
- Availability to work full-time and commitment to the role for the duration of the project.
