Job Description:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced AVP of Data Controls to join their Data Engineering team on a contract-to-hire basis. This pivotal role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls related to data solutions, encompassing ELT processes, databases, and Python data pipelines. The successful candidate will blend technical oversight with regulatory compliance to ensure accurate and auditable data. This position is based in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where precision and compliance are paramount.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate with Control Owners to scope, design, and implement an effective control framework that supports SOX compliance.
  • Develop and enforce SOX controls for data solutions, including ELT processes, databases, and Python data pipelines.
  • Ensure that data processes, infrastructure, and workflows comply with SOX regulations, focusing on financial reporting, data integrity, and access controls.
  • Create and maintain governance documentation to ensure continuous compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of SOX controls within the data architecture, engineering practices, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support internal and external SOX audits by providing necessary technical and procedural documentation and explanations.
  • Report on the status of SOX controls and audit findings to executive management.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to ensure SOX controls are integrated into data engineering architecture and product development processes.

Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of IT general controls and best practices, particularly for data environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data infrastructure, data security, access management, and data classification standards.
  • Proven experience with SOX General IT Controls.
  • Proficient in SQL, cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure), and data warehouse systems.
  • Ability to create and maintain governance documentation, support SOX audits, and report findings to executive management.
  • Knowledge of internal controls related to data risk management.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of management and stakeholders.
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating effective interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent strategic, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in using data governance tools, control management systems, and Microsoft Office suite.
