Job Description:
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Communications Technician to provide regional telecommunications field support. This role is critical for maintaining and troubleshooting a variety of communication systems across a substantial geographic area. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, capable of working independently without direct supervision. This position involves direct support of local projects, system preventative maintenance, and providing 24-hour on-call support. Frequent travel, up to 50%, is required for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot various types of communication systems including voice, data, SCADA, video, microwave, badge access, video surveillance, and satellite equipment.
- Assist the projects group with the implementation of project-related systems and infrastructure support.
- Direct local contractors engaged in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems.
- Provide first-level training and support to field operations personnel.
- Act as the first-level liaison between field operations and the IT organization, driving standards in the field and providing feedback to the communications engineering team.
- Offer 24×7 on-call support for emergent issues and system outages.
- Travel up to 50% to various regional sites to support ongoing projects and maintenance needs.
Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree in Electronics or 7 years of equivalent experience in the field of Electronics.
- FCC license is preferred but not required.
- A network certification such as CCNA is a plus.
- 7+ years of experience in the installation and/or maintenance of telecommunications systems, including wireless data systems, SCADA, and LAN cabling systems.
- Proven experience with phone system and microwave communications systems installation and maintenance is advantageous.
- Proficiency in using test equipment and software necessary for supporting telecommunications systems in the field.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently of direct supervision and prioritize assigned activities effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external teams/clients to solve problems.
- Physical capability to work in outdoor environments and safely operate a motor vehicle.
Pay Range: $65,000 – $75,000 Annually
This position is based in office and requires the employee to work on-site.
