Role Summary
This position requires an experienced IBM z/OS (Mainframe Systems Programmer) to support and maintain the z/OS environment. The role involves assisting the primary support team by providing backup and technical expertise in mainframe systems, hardware, and software support. The candidate will ensure smooth operation, troubleshooting, and updates of the mainframe systems, while collaborating with vendors and application teams as needed.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and upgrade the MVS z/OS operating system and related hardware components.
- Support and modify assembler language exits, ensuring system modifications align with operational requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues within the z/OS environment.
- Interact with IBM and other software vendors to install, configure, and troubleshoot vendor software.
- Provide technical support to application teams for mainframe-related queries and issues.
- Assist with disaster recovery planning and execution to ensure system resilience.
- Support OEM vendor software installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting processes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, modifications, and troubleshooting steps.
- Collaborate with small team members to cover various operational duties and responsibilities.
- Stay current on z/OS updates, patches, and vendor support offerings to ensure system stability and security.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting IBM z/OS (Mainframe Systems Programmer) environments.
- Strong assembler language programming skills, with the ability to support and modify assembler-coded exits.
- Knowledge of MVS operating system architecture, hardware, and mainframe utilities.
- Experience interacting with IBM and third-party vendors to resolve hardware/software issues.
- Ability to provide technical support for mainframe applications and ensure system stability.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with disaster recovery procedures for mainframe systems.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within a small team.
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Availability to work in a remote setting.
Publishing Pay Range: $50.00 – $70.00 USD Hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
