Role Summary
The Consulting Engineer is responsible for delivering enterprise networking solutions with a focus on switching, network management, and routing technologies. This role designs, implements, and optimizes complex network infrastructures while supporting hybrid cloud and automation initiatives. The position provides technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle and requires onsite presence in Austin, Texas, approximately two to three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and deployment of advanced enterprise networking solutions, including Catalyst switches, Catalyst Center, MPLS, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, VXLAN, and VRF.
- Provide onsite and remote consulting services to support network optimization and automation initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and stakeholders to develop network solutions aligned with technical and business requirements.
- Support the implementation of network automation and programmability using technologies such as Python and Ansible.
- Troubleshoot complex networking issues and recommend effective technical solutions.
- Conduct technical workshops, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept activities to support solution evaluation and adoption.
- Lead or participate in large-scale enterprise network design and deployment projects, supporting delivery within established scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of enterprise networking technologies, industry best practices, and emerging networking trends.
- Identify opportunities to enhance existing network solutions and expand technical capabilities within the environment.
- Develop and maintain network design, configuration, and implementation documentation, technical reports, and stakeholder presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in enterprise network solution design, deployment, consulting, or support.
- Relevant networking certifications, such as CCIE, CCNP, CCNA, or DevNet certification, are preferred.
- Strong experience with Catalyst switching, Catalyst Center, routing and switching protocols such as BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF, as well as technologies including MPLS, VXLAN, LISP, and VRF.
- Experience with network automation and programmability using Python, Ansible, or related technologies.
- Experience with software-defined access, identity services, and wireless networking technologies is preferred.
- Strong consulting and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical recommendations to both technical and business audiences.
- Ability to work onsite in Austin, Texas, approximately two to three days per week.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, project-oriented environment.
Publishing Pay Range: $65.00 – $70.00 Hourly
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, combining on-site customer engagement with remote work.
