Responsibilities

  • Own operational support and technical resolution for network infrastructure across research, laboratory, facility, cloud, and partner environments.
  • Serve as the primary engineering escalation point for network issues, escalating architecture, security, policy, and significant-risk decisions when appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity, routing, switching, wireless, VPN, firewall, ISP, DNS/DHCP, and network performance issues.
  • Implement approved network changes in accordance with architecture, engineering standards, designs, and change-management procedures.
  • Configure, deploy, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot Cisco Catalyst and Cisco Meraki infrastructure, including switches, wireless systems, optics, fiber, and high-speed Ethernet.
  • Support WAN, inter-site, hybrid cloud, and facility connectivity, including coordination with carriers, vendors, security teams, facilities, engineering groups, and site personnel.
  • Monitor network availability, health, capacity, and performance while leading incident response, service restoration, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain network diagrams, configurations, IP addressing records, circuit inventories, equipment documentation, operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Execute network lifecycle activities, including software and firmware upgrades, hardware replacement, configuration maintenance, technical debt remediation, and equipment refreshes.
  • Identify opportunities to automate network operations and improve monitoring, configuration management, validation, documentation, and troubleshooting consistency.

Qualifications

  • Advanced experience with Cisco routing and switching and strong knowledge of VLANs, trunking, STP, routing, ACLs, redundancy, and high-availability network design.
  • Strong BGP and OSPF implementation and troubleshooting skills, including complex WAN and inter-site connectivity.
  • Demonstrated packet-level troubleshooting experience using packet captures, flow data, device telemetry, Wireshark, or comparable tools.
  • CCNP Enterprise certification or equivalent demonstrated enterprise networking experience.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco Catalyst and Cisco Meraki Dashboard for switching, wireless, monitoring, troubleshooting, and security platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure networking or comparable cloud environments, including IPsec VPNs, BGP, virtual networking, network security controls, and hybrid connectivity; Azure Virtual WAN or similar cloud WAN experience is desirable.
  • Enterprise wireless troubleshooting experience, including familiarity with 802.1X, certificate-based authentication, NAC/RADIUS, guest networking, and upstream network dependencies.
  • Working knowledge of network segmentation, firewalls, ACLs, VPNs, Zero Trust principles, secure remote access, certificate-based authentication, and enterprise security and change-management requirements.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, REST APIs, or equivalent network automation technologies; familiarity with structured configuration management and version control is desirable.
  • Strong independent problem-solving, communication, organization, and documentation skills, with the ability to manage operational priorities and collaborate across U.S. and Central European time zones.
