COBOL Mainframe Programmer/Developer with IMS
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced COBOL Mainframe Programmer/Developer with IMS expertise to join their dynamic team. This role involves translating business requirements into program specifications, maintaining and enhancing custom-developed software, and providing production support for applications. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the COBOL programming language, IMS DB/DC, and JCL for IBM mainframe operating systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical projects that support and enhance business processes through technology.
Responsibilities:
- Translate Analysis and Design documents and specifications into programs.
- Maintain and enhance custom developed software including modifying and testing user data entry screens, batch processing, reports, queries, and menus.
- Review existing code, data, and business processes to support non-database functions.
- Test program changes, update test files, run tests, review results, and determine the correctness of the program changes based on the provided requirements.
- Troubleshoot, test, and debug computer software to produce the required outcomes, addressing abends, compilation errors, and other processing errors.
- Follow organization guidelines and procedures in all programs and adhere to all appropriate standards.
- Provide production support for applications, including tasks related to correcting data and production process recovery.
- Assist with the conversion from COBOL application to web-based application.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in COBOL development on the Mainframe.
- Proven experience with JCL development and maintenance.
- Experience with IMS development and maintenance.
- Understanding of the full software development life cycle, including design, development, integration testing, and deployment.
- Proficiency in COBOL, IMS DB/DC, TSO, ISPF, and MS Office.
- Ability to translate business requirements into program specifications.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot, test, and debug software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to prepare both program-level and user-level documentation.
