Role Summary
The RCDD Cable Engineer is a senior-level technical expert responsible for designing, engineering, and supporting structured cabling systems across diverse infrastructure projects. This role involves working closely with internal teams, external partners, and clients to develop comprehensive cable infrastructure solutions that meet industry standards and project requirements. The engineer will ensure quality, compliance, and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle, contributing to the organization’s global solutions and service delivery objectives.
Responsibilities
- Develop and translate business and technical requirements into detailed cable infrastructure designs.
- Prepare estimates, scope of work, and project budgets for structured cabling projects.
- Create and review design and bid documents, including RFP development and bid analysis.
- Conduct field surveys, validate as-built drawings, and ensure compliance with building codes and industry standards such as BICSI, ISO/IEC, and CENELEC.
- Interface with internal teams, clients, vendors, and third-party contractors to coordinate project activities and resolve site-specific construction issues.
- Oversee construction management activities related to cabling installation, providing direction and quality assurance.
- Support project acceptance testing, validation, and close-out processes.
- Maintain industry certifications, stay current with technological advancements, and support organizational goals.
- Use tools such as AutoCAD, MS Project, Visio, and MS Office to produce professional documentation and project deliverables.
- Provide ongoing client and stakeholder communication, including technical presentations and status updates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
- RCDD certification is required.
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in structured cabling design and implementation within data center and commercial infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of U.S., CALA, EMEA, and Asia Pac standards for structured cabling and installation practices.
- Proven experience managing large-scale IT infrastructure projects, including design, implementation, and support.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, Visio, and other relevant design and project management tools.
- Experience working with multi-vendor solutions, especially with manufacturers such as Corning and CommScope.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of interfacing with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a global, multi-time zone environment.
- Willingness to travel and work onsite as needed.
- Strong analytical skills, experience with process re-engineering (ITIL, Six Sigma) is a plus.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Publishing Pay Range: $50.00-$52.00 Hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
