Role Summary
A Senior Backend Data Test Engineer is responsible for validating large-scale data systems to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency. This role requires deep expertise in backend database testing, ETL verification, and big data technologies within a high-priority CMS application. The engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to maintain system reliability and support Agile delivery processes, working primarily on backend data validation and UI verification tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive ETL and backend data validation using big data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and PostgreSQL.
- Analyze, interpret, and validate complex CMS datasets, including Claims, Provider, and Beneficiary data.
- Validate data sourced from CMS’s Integrated Data Repository (IDR) and OnePI tools related to Fraud Prevention System (FPS) data workflows.
- Conduct data comparison and reconciliation between backend datasets and frontend/UI outputs or Databricks Unity Catalog results.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, DBAs, Developers, and Scrum teams to ensure data accuracy, system performance, and compliance standards.
- Ensure adherence to CMS Testing Framework standards, SDLC processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Support end-to-end data integrity validation through functional UI testing as needed.
- Develop, execute, and maintain detailed test plans, cases, and validation scenarios for backend systems with minimal supervision.
- Design and perform API-based testing to validate backend services and data flows.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including daily standups, planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives, providing ongoing support and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a Backend/Data Tester.
- Strong expertise in backend database testing with PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and SQL.
- Experience validating data within big data environments such as Databricks and Snowflake.
- Proficiency with collaboration tools including Jira, Confluence, and Slack.
- Hands-on experience creating detailed test cases based on user stories and functional requirements.
- Knowledge of Agile or SAFe methodologies and SDLC processes.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Publishing Pay Range: $35.00 – $45.00 USD Hourly
