Role Summary
The Software Quality Assurance (QA) Engineering Advisor is an experienced professional responsible for developing, executing, and overseeing testing processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions. This role involves designing test plans, managing test execution, and coordinating with stakeholders to certify system changes and releases. The position requires independent work to support testing initiatives within a complex, regulated environment, with a focus on FAA systems and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and execute detailed test plans, procedures, and test cases for software releases, patches, and system upgrades.
- Conduct formal and informal system testing activities, including regression testing and automated test scripting.
- Maintain and manage test control databases, ensuring data integrity and currency for effective testing.
- Support and support system testing on FAA-related platforms such as ERAM and TFMS, mimicking the FAA National Airspace System.
- Track, document, and report defect statuses, collaborating with analysts and programmers to resolve issues and incorporate fixes into future releases.
- Develop technical documentation, including test reports, validation procedures, and process improvements.
- Oversee release management processes, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and documentation requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate testing progress, findings, and technical details effectively with stakeholders, including FAA personnel and contractors.
- Review and analyze system logs, data, and outputs, including SQL data and Linux logs, to assist in troubleshooting and validation activities.
- Support test and evaluation (T&E) activities, including risk assessments and testing for FAA systems and data interfaces.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related STEM or business field; 20+ years of relevant experience; or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- Extensive experience developing test plans, procedures, and reports, particularly for FAA systems such as ERAM and TFMS.
- Strong understanding of Quality Assurance / Test Engineering principles, including V&V and T&E methodologies.
- Proven experience with FAA-specific systems, data, and standards, including ERAM, STARS, and FAA NAS.
- Proficiency in Linux system log analysis and debugging, with knowledge of data modeling, visualization, and SQL (Oracle SQL/SQL Developer).
- Ability to review and create test scenarios that simulate complex air traffic control environments.
- Knowledge of FAA SWIM NEMS area and experience with data analytics and ETL processes.
- ISTQB certification fundamentals (preferred but not required).
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to work independently in a regulated environment.
- Availability to perform some shift work based on laboratory and project requirements.
Publishing Pay Range: $55.00 – $60.00 hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
