Role Summary
The Senior Communications Technician is an experienced professional responsible for providing comprehensive telecommunications field support across a large geographic region. This role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and system support of various communication technologies, ensuring optimal operational performance. The technician works independently, managing multiple projects and priorities while delivering on-call support to address urgent issues as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain diverse communication systems, including voice, data, SCADA, video, microwave, and satellite equipment, along with supporting infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in communication systems, ensuring timely resolution to minimize system downtime.
  • Support local projects through system implementation, coordination, and technical assistance.
  • Lead and oversee the work of local contractors engaged in telecommunications system installation and maintenance.
  • Provide first-level training and ongoing support to field operations personnel on communication systems and procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between field operations and IT teams to facilitate effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Drive standards and best practices in telecommunications field operations, providing feedback to engineering teams for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain readiness to provide 24/7 on-call support for urgent system issues.
  • Travel up to 30% to support regional field operations and project activities.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of system upgrades and enhancements, ensuring compliance with safety and technical standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required; Associate's degree in Electronics or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the installation and maintenance of telecommunications systems, including wireless data, SCADA, and LAN cabling.
  • FCC license is preferred.
  • Network certification such as CCNA is a plus.
  • Proven ability to operate test equipment and software relevant to telecommunications field support.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to interact with internal teams and external clients.
  • Physically capable of working outdoors and operating a motor vehicle safely.

Publishing Pay Range: $90,000.00 – $95,000.00 annually
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
