Backend Tester

Role Summary
The Backend Data Validation and Performance Test Engineer is an experienced professional responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, reliability, and high performance of large-scale backend data systems within enterprise applications. This role involves assessing data processes, conducting performance benchmarking, and validating data across diverse ecosystems. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to maintain compliance with program, architectural, and regulatory standards, primarily supporting CMS-related projects.

Responsibilities

• Validate and assess backend data systems to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and system integrity.
• Conduct performance testing, including workload analysis, query tuning, and data pipeline benchmarking to optimize backend system performance.
• Perform data validation in big data environments such as Databricks and Snowflake, ensuring data integrity and process reliability.
• Develop and execute comprehensive backend testing plans and detailed test cases based on user stories and functional requirements.
• Create and manage defect tickets, acceptance criteria, and test documentation in collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, and TestRail.
• Partner with Data Coaches, Data Analysts, Database Administrators (DBAs), and development teams to ensure backend processes adhere to standards and best practices.
• Translate complex user requirements into actionable testing strategies and procedures.
• Assist in the implementation of best practices for data quality, security, and compliance standards within backend systems.
• Support system performance monitoring using visualization tools such as Tableau or Grafana.
• Contribute to agile delivery methods, providing input to planning sessions and retrospectives to improve testing workflows.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in backend data testing or data QA roles.
• Strong proficiency in backend database validation using PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and advanced SQL.
• Demonstrated experience validating data in big data ecosystems like Databricks and Snowflake.
• Proven experience with backend performance testing, workload analysis, query tuning, and data pipeline benchmarking.
• Familiarity with collaboration tools including Jira, Confluence, Slack, and TestRail.
• Experience working in Agile or SAFe environments, capable of translating user stories into testing plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and deliver high-quality results with minimal supervision.
• This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
• Availability to support remote work environment.

Publishing Pay Range: $40.00 – $43.00 USD Hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
