Role Summary
A Cloud Operations & Engineering Team Lead is responsible for providing technical leadership and hands-on support within a large enterprise cloud environment. This role involves managing a team of cloud engineers, overseeing infrastructure operations across AWS and Azure, and ensuring high availability and performance of cloud services. The position requires a proactive leader capable of balancing technical expertise with team coordination in a remote setting, supporting complex cloud workloads and automation initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day technical direction of the cloud engineering and operations team, including workload distribution across the cloud estate.
  • Prioritize and scope ServiceNow requests, Jira tasks, and infrastructure change management activities.
  • Plan and coordinate operational support activities such as patching, maintenance, and cost optimization efforts with stakeholders.
  • Manage the team’s on-call rotations, escalation procedures, and severity definitions to ensure effective incident response.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement automation, monitoring, and process improvements to reduce toil and enhance service delivery.
  • Advise on best practices for cloud infrastructure management and contribute to refining team standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Cloud Business Office and technical teams to ensure cohesive operations.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, issues, and strategic updates to leadership effectively.
  • Assist in hiring, interviewing, and providing performance feedback for team members.
  • Perform incident management, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and post-incident reporting in a live cloud environment.
  • Manage cloud infrastructure deployments using Terraform and CloudFormation, resolving deployment issues as needed.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot existing cloud stacks, including provisioning and lifecycle management of AWS resources such as EC2, RDS, and IAM.
  • Automate routine operations using scripting languages like Python, and develop operational workflows to improve efficiency.
  • Support a migration from CloudFormation to Terraform and evaluate new cloud service offerings for operational suitability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience in cloud technologies preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience working with AWS, including multi-account enterprise environments, and some experience with Azure cloud services.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership supporting teams of five or more engineers, with experience setting priorities and providing technical direction.
  • Proven experience managing high-availability cloud environments, resource lifecycle management, and troubleshooting deployment/access issues within large-scale architectures.
  • Skilled in automation scripting using Python or similar, including building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Strong incident response and operational support skills in enterprise production environments.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment on East Coast hours and support outside normal business hours as needed.
  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.

Publishing Pay Range: $80.00 – $84.00 hourly
This position is based in remote and can be performed from an approved location.
