Role Summary
The Electrical Engineer – Power Innovation (Commissioning) is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient commissioning and startup of power generation and energy systems. This mid to senior-level position involves providing electrical engineering expertise throughout the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and turnover phases. The role ensures that electrical systems are thoroughly tested, verified, and prepared for operational readiness, contributing to project success in a dynamic industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Support and lead electrical commissioning activities, including testing, verification, and troubleshooting of switchgear, transformers, generators, protection relays, and control systems
- Validate power system studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) to ensure alignment with as-built conditions prior to energization
- Execute and oversee electrical testing activities such as insulation resistance, hi-pot, relay testing, and functional verification
- Assist in pre-commissioning efforts, including loop checks, calibration, and protection system verification
- Coordinate and participate in FAT, SAT, PSSR, and RFSU processes to confirm systems meet startup requirements
- Collaborate with project teams (Management, Construction, Controls, Operations) to ensure system readiness and aligned execution
- Conduct field testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution during commissioning and startup activities
- Ensure compliance with industry safety standards such as NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and company safety protocols
- Support integration and testing of BESS and power generation systems, including performance validation
- Develop and maintain comprehensive commissioning documentation, including ITRs, test records, redlines, and turnover packages
- Identify, track, and drive resolution of punch list items prior to system handover
- Coordinate with vendors to facilitate installation, testing, and commissioning activities
- Promote continuous process improvement and support development of standardized commissioning procedures and tools
- Mentor and develop junior engineers to enhance team competency
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project need
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited) or Engineering Technology with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or commissioning within power generation, industrial, or related sectors
- Working knowledge of electrical power systems and equipment, including switchgear, transformers, generators
- Proficiency in electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and control systems
- Experience with commissioning, testing, and startup procedures
- Ability to interpret and review technical documentation and schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a field environment
- Familiarity with safety standards such as NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and industry best practices
- Excellent communication and coordination skills to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work in active construction and commissioning settings, often in industrial environments
Publishing Pay Range: $40.00 – $50.00 hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
