Role Summary
A Linux Systems Engineer II is responsible for supporting and maintaining complex hosting environments and operating systems across both on-premise and cloud platforms. This mid-level role requires overseeing the administration, configuration, and management of virtual and physical infrastructure to ensure system reliability, security, and optimal performance. The position involves evaluating system performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing improvements to support organizational IT operations within a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain Linux and related infrastructure systems within assigned technologies.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity; analyze metrics and recommend enhancements to improve stability and scalability.
  • Provide ongoing production support including system monitoring, reporting, and ensuring consistent IT service delivery.
  • Act as a Tier III escalation point for complex technical incidents, performing troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and remediation across hardware and software.
  • Execute infrastructure changes such as operating system updates, security patches, and system upgrades to address vulnerabilities and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, operational procedures, and policies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to deliver support consistent with service standards.
  • Ensure system security by adhering to best practices, including data-at-rest encryption and access controls.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for incident response and infrastructure support.
  • Stay informed of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to continually improve infrastructure capabilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing Red Hat Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash.
  • Background working in mid-to-large scale enterprise environments.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and present data effectively.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities and capability to work independently or within a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Publishing Pay Range: $50.00 – $59.50 hourly
This position offers a hybrid schedule, with time split between the office and remote work.
