Role Summary
The Network Engineer is responsible for managing and supporting network switching infrastructure to enable secure network access across multiple locations. This role focuses on designing, deploying, validating, and troubleshooting 802.1X and MAB configurations while supporting reliable network security and access control. The position collaborates with cross-functional teams to support network deployments and operational requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review switch inventory, firmware, and configurations to assess 802.1X, MAB, and CoA readiness and identify equipment requiring remediation or replacement.
- Develop and deploy standardized 802.1X and MAB configuration templates across multiple environments, including rollback procedures.
- Configure network ports for devices such as IP phones, printers, IoT devices, and other equipment requiring MAB or approved exceptions.
- Configure AAA, RADIUS, TACACS+, VLAN assignments, DHCP snooping, and related network security features.
- Support phased network enforcement activities, monitor network performance, and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Configure wireless authentication systems, including Wi-Fi networks supporting 802.1X authentication.
- Develop and maintain as-built documentation, configuration backups, and network diagrams.
- Perform network changes during designated maintenance windows, including physical and virtual configuration activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network security and compliance requirements.
- Travel to multiple locations within the continental United States to support network deployment and configuration activities.
Qualifications
- 5 to 8 years of experience in campus or enterprise networking, including 3+ years of experience deploying 802.1X and MAB across wired and wireless networks.
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting 802.1X, MAB, and CoA in production network environments.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco IOS/IOS-XE or comparable switching technologies, including AAA, VLANs, DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection (DAI), and port security.
- Experience with bulk configuration deployment and rollback using automation technologies such as Ansible, Python, or Netmiko.
- Ability to work in physical network environments and participate in scheduled after-hours maintenance windows as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% to locations within the continental United States.
- Relevant education, training, certifications, or equivalent practical experience.
- Security+ certification required.
- CCNA certification required; CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Security, or similar advanced networking certification preferred.
Publishing Pay Range: $70.00 – $80.00 USD Hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
