Role Summary
A senior Perimeter Implementation Engineer is responsible for supporting perimeter security deployment, lifecycle management, and technical initiatives within a cybersecurity and network infrastructure environment. This role involves planning, executing, and managing network security projects with minimal impact to the production environment. The engineer will work independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality security solutions that meet organizational requirements and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the release, deployment, and lifecycle management of perimeter security systems, including hardware and software refreshes, capacity expansions, migrations, and decommissions.
- Perform detailed technical assessments, develop implementation plans, and execute changes to firewalls and IDS/IPS platforms such as Fortinet, Check Point, and TippingPoint.
- Ensure all deployment activities adhere to established standards, runbooks, and project deadlines, while maintaining zero impact to the production network.
- Develop thorough validation, testing, and back-out plans for all technical changes, ensuring minimal risk during implementation.
- Collaborate with design engineering teams to review, vet, and refine technical solutions, providing proactive feedback and raising concerns early.
- Configure and operate various firewall management systems (e.g., FortiManager, Check Point Provider 1 Management Systems, FortiAnalyzer, Smartview Manager, Tracker).
- Maintain accurate documentation, asset tracking, inventory systems, and records in support of change management and audit compliance.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying efficiencies and documenting best practices for perimeter security operations.
- Work nights and weekends as needed to support scheduled deployments and maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of management, technical teams, and stakeholders to provide project updates, technical guidance, and risk assessments.
Qualifications
- Eight or more years of experience managing perimeter security solutions, including extensive hands-on work with firewalls and IDS/IPS systems.
- Proven experience building, configuring, and operating Fortinet, Check Point, and TippingPoint security platforms.
- Strong knowledge of network infrastructure including DMZ architecture, Cisco routing and switching, and LAN protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, DNS, etc.).
- Proficiency with network management tools such as FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, Smartview Manager, and Tracker.
- Programming skills in scripting languages like Python, Perl, or shell scripting, and familiarity with UNIX/Linux environments at an administrator level.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously, with strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Experience working in a cybersecurity or banking environment preferred.
- Ability to work remotely, supporting implementation activities during nights and weekends as required.
Publishing Pay Range: $48.00 – $50.00 Hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
