Role Summary
The Environmental Specialist III is responsible for providing technical expertise and oversight in NEPA processes, water, cultural resources, and natural resource permitting. This role involves managing moderate-complexity projects and programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing environmental policies and procedures. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of environmental regulations and proactive management of permits and project documentation.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains environmental policies, processes, and compliance documentation.
- Interprets federal, state, and local regulations to ensure project adherence.
- Assesses environmental risks, recommends mitigation strategies, and prepares necessary regulatory documentation.
- Leads or supports project planning activities including scheduling, impact assessments, and reporting.
- Prepares and submits complex environmental permit applications, renewals, and approvals, maintaining accurate schedules.
- Conducts environmental compliance audits and due diligence investigations.
- Monitors regulatory changes and evaluates their impact on project timelines and costs.
- Coordinates construction-phase compliance requirements and tracks implementation to closure.
- Develops and implements improvements in environmental management systems, liaising with regulatory agencies and preparing reports for stakeholders.
- Provides guidance, mentorship, and training to team members on environmental compliance and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years’ environmental experience.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with a focus on safety and compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and PC skills.
- Extensive knowledge of federal and state environmental permitting processes, including FERC and NEPA requirements.
- Ability to manage multiple permits across large projects with tight deadlines.
- Skilled in developing permitting timelines and integrating them into project schedules.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for agency coordination and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external consultants effectively.
- Commitment to environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance.
- Proactive in identifying and resolving permitting challenges.
Publishing Pay Range: $40.00 – $50.00 hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
