Role Summary

The Senior Product Owner – Atlassian Platform & Automation is a senior-level role responsible for defining and executing the product strategy for an enterprise Atlassian platform supporting software development life cycle (SDLC) and IT service management (ITSM) processes. The role involves managing the product backlog, prioritizing deliverables, and leading platform enhancements to improve efficiency, automation, and data quality. The individual will collaborate closely with stakeholders to drive automation initiatives, optimize Jira configurations, and implement AI-driven solutions, supporting scalable and streamlined operations across programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of SDLCNext, translating stakeholder requirements into a prioritized backlog of user stories and technical tasks, ensuring timely releases across all lifecycle phases.
  • Manage backlog activities including refinement, sprint planning, and release coordination to align with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Oversee platform enhancements and roadmap execution, ensuring the timely delivery of capability blocks and critical system updates that support enterprise objectives.
  • Monitor and mitigate risks related to platform performance, delivery schedules, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Supervise day-to-day ITSM operations, including incident management, service requests, change activities, and workflow management within the platform environment.
  • Drive automation of ITSM workflows, such as incident routing, change management, and request handling, leveraging Jira and related Atlassian tools to reduce manual effort.
  • Support platform governance by configuring Jira, Confluence, and Jira Service Management, optimizing workflows, data structures, and performance tuning according to enterprise standards.
  • Implement automation rules, integrations, and plugins in Jira to improve operational consistency, scalability, and user experience.
  • Lead initiatives to migrate systems to Atlassian Cloud, ensuring platform continuity and performance optimization.
  • Track and analyze performance metrics, including ticket throughput, SLA compliance, and backlog health, to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage a team supporting platform operations and enhancements, providing guidance, overseeing workload distribution, and maintaining stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product management, product ownership, or platform delivery roles, with proven ownership of backlogs and delivery outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and Atlassian tools, including workflow design, automation rules, JQL, dashboards, and platform configuration at scale.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing automation solutions within Jira or similar platforms to streamline workflows and operational efficiency.
  • Experience applying AI and Generative AI tools to automate workflows, improve data quality, and enhance delivery processes.
  • Strong understanding of ITSM processes such as incident, request, and change management.
  • Proven experience balancing operational support with the delivery of new features and automation initiatives.
  • Leadership skills in managing and directing technical teams, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to analyze performance metrics to guide improvements and reporting.
  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired must verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.     with the ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).

Publishing Pay Range: $60.00 – $63.00 hourly

This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
