Role Summary
This position is a senior-level telecommunications support specialist responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting complex network systems. The role requires technical expertise in Cisco networking equipment, protocols, and security, supporting engineering teams to ensure the integrity and performance of telecommunications infrastructure. Candidates will lead efforts in network configuration, testing, and maintenance, with a focus on supporting federal clearance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and troubleshoot network issues, identify root causes, and develop workarounds or vendor-approved solutions.
- Develop scripts for proactive network defect detection and forensic analysis of network behavior patterns.
- Manage relationships with equipment and software vendors, overseeing service performance and contract negotiations.
- Plan and coordinate the integration of new technologies into existing network systems, including lab testing and certification processes.
- Create detailed procedures and documentation for implementing new technology solutions, ensuring a seamless transition to operations teams.
- Support network testing, configuration, and maintenance activities to maintain optimal network performance.
- Serve as the primary customer contact for scheduling network changes, coordinating change management processes effectively.
- Utilize network diagnostic tools for fault management, performance analysis, and capacity planning.
- Conduct network performance assessments and recommend configuration modifications to optimize efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less experienced team members, promoting industry best practices.
- Stay updated on industry standards and participate in ongoing professional development related to network security and design.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain clearance and pass necessary background checks.
- Proficient in Cisco router and switch configuration, IOS upgrades, and hardware replacements.
- Strong understanding of routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and multi-protocol VPNs such as GetVPN, IPSEC.
- Extensive experience with Layer 1 and Layer 2 protocols, including T1, T3, OC3, frame relay, satellite, microwave, and wireless technologies.
- Knowledge of network design, analysis, and implementation, with experience in Ethernet circuits and VLAN configuration.
- Basic understanding of RF communications and signaling techniques.
- Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills suitable for technical leadership roles.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in telecommunications networking.
- Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, and CISSP are preferred and must be actively maintained.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, MIS, Telecommunications, or related field is preferred.
- Availability to work on-site at the designated location.
Publishing Pay Range: $60.00 – $65.00 USD Hourly
This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
